Marathon Kids and The Power of Sports Foundation Expand Youth Physical Activity

Marathon Kids is proud to partner with The Power of Sports Foundation to help more children experience the lifelong benefits of movement.

The partnership will expand access to inclusive youth running and physical activity programs that help kids improve their physical health, build confidence, develop resilience, and create lasting healthy habits.

The Power of Sports Foundation advances positive change through sports by increasing opportunities for young people to be active. Its commitment to healthier, stronger communities closely aligns with the Marathon Kids mission: helping every child discover the joy of movement and reach meaningful goals at their own pace.

Marathon Kids works with schools, educators, coaches, and community organizations nationwide to make physical activity accessible and rewarding. Through evidence-based programming, personalized goal setting, and positive encouragement, children learn that movement is about more than fitness. It builds perseverance, strengthens social connections, supports mental well-being, and reinforces a belief in what they can achieve.

Regular physical activity can also positively influence how children engage in the classroom, at home, and in their communities. By making movement welcoming and achievable, Marathon Kids helps young people develop skills that can support them throughout their lives.

Support from The Power of Sports Foundation will help Marathon Kids bring these benefits to more children and communities. Together, the organizations are creating opportunities for kids of all abilities and backgrounds to get active, celebrate progress, and experience the confidence that comes from reaching a goal.

Marathon Kids is grateful to The Power of Sports Foundation for investing in healthier, happier, and more confident kids.

When kids move, they go farther, in running and in life.

About Marathon Kids

Founded in 1995, Marathon Kids is the only evidence-based structured physical activity program specifically designed for children in the US. Using technology and research-proven methods, the Marathon Kids Program aims to get kids moving! With the help of coaches and mentors, kids set big goals and are challenged to run, jog, walk, or move the equivalent of four (or more!) marathons over the course of a season or school year.

The Marathon Kids Mission

The World Health Organization recommends 60 minutes of daily activity for kids, yet only 1 in 4 students are reaching that goal.

Research shows that when children participate in Marathon Kids, they have a better chance of achieving the recommended amount of daily physical activity. That’s great news for their bodies and minds! When kids are active, not only are they forming life-long healthy physical habits, they are also happier and perform better in school.

Our programming is built on six evidence-based pillars for long-term healthy behavior adoption.

The Marathon Kids Program provides training, tools, and resources to the dedicated coaches, PE teachers, and other community volunteers who motivate kids to take their first step towards a healthier future and positively impact mental health.

Through movement, we show kids they can achieve more than they ever thought possible!
