HOW MARATHON KIDS WORKS
Marathon Kids program works for any kid, at any fitness level. Kids set goals and track their progress on a journey to complete up to four marathons, or 104.8 miles, over the course of the running season. They run (or walk, or skip!) one lap at a time, one day at a time, and before they know it, they’ve gone farther than they ever dreamed.
Along the way, they also learn how to fuel their bodies so they can run faster, better, longer. They have a network of dedicated adults showing them how it’s done, and most importantly, a motivated and inspiring coach supporting them every step of the way.
The Marathon Kids youth running program is easy to manage with Marathon Kids Connect, our free distance tracking app and reporting platform, which makes it a breeze to get kids moving, report their progress, and celebrate their achievements.
Who Can be a Coach?
Any adult interested in being a champion for health in their community can be a Marathon Kids coach. We provide out-of-the-box programming that works for classroom teachers, PE teachers, and volunteers. With Marathon Kids Connect, coaches can implement our program at school or at home, or switch fluidly between the two. Coaches can use the platform to stay connected with parents and help runners celebrate milestones.
How is the Program Implemented?
Marathon Kids Connect generates runner ID cards for each participant. Kids running on a track can scan their ID cards after every lap to have their mileage totals uploaded to Marathon Kids Connect. Running at home, in the classroom, or otherwise off-track? No problem. Marathon Kids Connect can also be used to track physical activity. 20 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity equals one mile. Runners can also map out mileage routes to calculate distances and submit totals via Marathon Kids Connect – all of which makes the Marathon Kids youth running program completely customizable.
Are you a teacher who can do a 10-minute activity break during the school day? That counts as half a mile. Want to let your students run for 20 minutes when they arrive early for school? That’s another mile. It’s easy to get kids started on setting goals and enjoying brain boosts from physical activity before, during, or after school!
