Chicago Marathon Kids Final Mile Medal Celebration!

Congratulations to the Chicago Marathon Kids who have completed their 26.2 miles!

When: Saturday,  May 2nd 2009, 10am, sharp.

WhereChicago Public School's Hanson Stadium
             5501 W Fullerton Ave, Chicago, IL 60639

How The Event Works: PLEASE READ

Families are encouraged to attend!

As participants arrive, they will be greeted by volunteers and led into the stands to sit alphabetically in sections by school name. For example, Addison Elementary may sit anywhere in the A-L section (look for signs). Groups are not required to sit together, and for groups arriving separately with parents, if you would like to sit as a school, you are encouraged to meet up together before entering the stands.

The event will begin at 10:00am sharp, where VIPs will be introduced to the crowd, and the ceremonial flag lap will be held during the playing of the national anthem.

Following the national anthem, our volunteer ushers will begin bringing individual sections out of the stands and leading them onto the track. Please remain seated and WAIT until your section is called to come down by the ushers. We are committed to everyone’s safety and thank you for your cooperation in listening to the ushers. It is not mandatory for students arriving with their parents to run with their school groups. This is a family event too! Sections will be brought down onto the track consecutively, until the stands are empty.

Note, valuables should not be left in the stands and all items must be taken with you as your section exits the stands (you will not return to your seats following the event).

Parents, teachers, family members are encouraged to run with their children on the track. IMPORTANT: Parents/teachers MUST run with Kinder, 1st, and 2nd grade students.
Those unable to run will be directed to a waiting area.

Groups will run 1 and a half laps around the track, and will be guided into the middle of the field (Reward Alley) where they will receive their earned rewards. We will provide a Lost & Found and First Aid tent in Reward Alley. All lost parents, teachers, and children should report to the Lost & Found tent.

Access: This is an inclusive event and all children, regardless of abilities, are encouraged to participate. If you have children who require special needs, please contact us and we will make arrangements accordingly.

Once you have gathered your group, you may exit Reward Alley, and you are finished with the event and free to exit to the parking lot!

  • Ask your bus driver to remain on site for the duration of the event!

  • Due to the nature of the event, children should leave backpacks or bags on the bus.
  • Bring a bright colored, large, visible school sign to help keep your group together.
  • Arrange and communicate a meeting point for your students in Reward Alley PRIOR to exiting the stands to run on the track.
